Good bicycles can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The beauty of all this is you can save a ton of money when purchasing your bicycle, if you just know where to look for it. If you want to ride a road bike, you will need to subtract about nine inches from your inseam measurement. This is to account for the size of tires you will use on a road bike. These tires will be thinner and designed for efficiency on concrete roads or pavements. For a mountain bike take away 12 inches from your inseam. Again this is to account for the type of tires you will be using. Mountain bike tires are thicker than road bike tires, designed for rocky terrain. Mountain bikes can travel on city pavement but that is not what they are designed to do.

Be certain to leave adequate room between yourself and your bikes crossbar. When selecting a bike make sure you move the seat up slightly, to check it out around a few inches above the height of the crossbar. You should be able to still rest your feet flat on the floor. You will want to leave different clearance lengths depending on the type of bicycle you are buying. For example a touring bike will require around an inch. With a mountain bike however you will need some more, 3 inches should suffice. There are many different factors to take into account when finding the right bicycle. Are you going to be riding your bicycle every day or riding it only when you feel the urge to? Which height is most comfortable for you? Would you rather have room between your feet and the ground or would you rather be able to touch the ground with your feet when you come to a stop? You will want to answer all of these important questions, as you make your bicycle selection.
